Son los discos de siempre, esos que han marcado a varias generaciones, pero nunca antes habían podido escucharse así: el catálogo completo de los Beatles suena radiante tras un minucioso proceso de remasterización digital, que ha sido supervisado por Paul McCartney y Ringo Starr.
Los seguidores de los Beatles de todo el mundo esperan desde hace meses la fecha mágica del
próximo 9 de septiembre (09-09-09). Ese día se publicarán remasterizados los trece álbumes originales del grupo de Liverpool -más el recopilatorio «Past masters»- en CD estéreo.
Un formato en el que no habían aparecido aún los cuatro primeros títulos de los «Fab Four»: «Please please me» (1963), «With The Beatles» (1963), «A hard day's night» (1964) y «Beatles for sale» (1964).
La lista de álbumes se completa con «Help!» (1965), «Rubber soul» (1965), «Revolver» (1966), «Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band» (1967), «Magical mistery tour» (1967), «The Beatles» (El Álbum Blanco) (1968), «Yellow submarine» (1968), «Abbey Road» (1969) y «Let it be» (1970).
Se trata del relanzamiento del catálogo «más completo, cuidado e importante de la historia de la música», aseguró la discográfica Emi la pasada primavera cuando anunció este proyecto, cuyo lanzamiento coincidirá con el del videojuego «The Beatles: Rock band».
La fecha del 9 de septiembre se aproxima a la del 40 aniversario del último encuentro en un estudio de grabación de John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison y Ringo Starr, quienes el 13 de septiembre de 1969 dieron los retoques finales a su último álbum, «Abbey Road».

Un sonido lleno de matices
En su primera escucha, el nuevo sonido de las canciones de los Beatles sorprende por la riqueza de sus matices, la calidez de las voces y la profundidad de las instrumentaciones. La sensación provocada en el oyente por la remasterización es comparable a la de un espectador que ve en la pantalla panorámica del cine una película que había visto antes en un televisor.
Para lograr este resultado, un equipo de ingenieros trabajó durante cuatro años en los estudios Abbey Road de Londres -en los que el grupo grabó la gran mayoría de sus canciones-, empleando las últimas tecnologías de grabación y antiguos equipos de estudio.
Los chasquidos electrónicos, golpes de aire en los micros producidos al cantar, silabeos excesivos y otros problemas fueron solucionados «hasta donde fue posible», sin afectar a la integridad de las cintas originales de estudio, ha explicado Emi.
Fuentes de la discográfica han señalado a Efe que McCartney y Starr -los dos miembros vivos del grupo- han supervisado personalmente este minucioso proceso de remasterización.
Los álbumes de los Beatles se publicaron en CD en los años ochenta, pero entonces no fueron remasterizados digitalmente, y así permanecieron durante dos décadas.
La peor noticia para quienes compraron aquellos discos es que entre el sonido de esos CD y los que ahora salen a la venta hay una gran diferencia, especialmente en las primeras grabaciones del grupo.
Para llegar a esta conclusión basta con escuchar ahora la voz de John Lennon en «If I feel», descubrir el sonido de las cuerdas de «Yesterday» de la versión remasterizada o degustar las armonías vocales de «Here, there and everywhere».
