Biografia de Phil Collins

Philip David Charles Collins cantante, compositor, baterista, pianista y actor británico, nacido el 30 de enero de 1951 en el barrio londinense de Chiswick, es uno de los personajes más activos y de mayor éxito de la música rock.




Alcanzó de niño notable éxito como actor y más tarde como batería de los grupos Hickory y Flaming Youth. En 1970 se integró en el grupo de rock sinfónico Genesis y desde 1981 desarrolló una carrera en solitario paralela a la de su trabajo con el grupo. También ha colaborado ocasionalmente con otros músicos y ha producido a artistas como Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Brand X e incluso, Anni-Frid Lyngstad del grupo ABBA. Su primer álbum en solitario, Face Value (1981), reflejaba la ruptura de su primer matrimonio, con canciones como “If Leaving Me is Easy” y “In the Air Tonight”. Hello, I Must Be Going (1982) fue otro disco que alcanzó gran popularidad y del cual se extrajo un sencillo, “You Can’t Hurry Love”, que se situó en el primer puesto de las listas de ventas británicas. También alcanzó gran éxito internacional el álbum No Jacket Required (1985).







Otros títulos a destacar en su discografía son:...But Seriously (1989), Both Sides (1993), Dance Into the Light (1996) y Testify (2002). En Brand X, su otra banda paralela de Rock Fusión, supo plasmar sus mejores virtudes como eximio baterista, editando con la banda 9 discos (tres en vivo) desde 1976 hasta 1983. Su tema para la película Contra todo riesgo (1983, Taylor Hackford) fue número uno en Estados Unidos. Su capacidad como actor se puso de nuevo de manifiesto con su interpretación del papel principal de la película Buster, el robo del siglo (1988, David Green), con la que ganó un premio Grammy por la canción “Two Hearts”.







Posteriormente ha centrado su actividad creativa en la composición de bandas sonoras, como la de la película Tarzán (1999) y también la banda sonora de la película Tierra de Osos (2003), ambas producidas por la Disney. Su último álbum de estudio es "Testify", del año 2002. Este año lo encuentra reunido con sus ex compañeros de ruta en Génesis, Tony Banks y Mike Rutheford, después de 15 años de separación, con quienes en Junio iniciarán una Gira por Europa y los Estados Unidos.
